It’s my first time in NYC and I have been craving for some Filipino food. I made the right choice of satisfying my cravings here at Kalye. Adora, their front of the house, was a gracious and impeccable host. I felt right at home and her good vibes is just contagious. For starters, I ordered the Inasal Wings. They were perfectly cooked, well-seasoned, and the wings were huge. For my main, I went for the Lechon with garlic rice. I found the garlic rice a little soggy for my liking. The skin of the Lechon was the highlight of this dish—it was so crunchy and flavorful. The lechon meat was tender and flavorful! I would have ordered more rice if I’m not going to other food places after it. I’m definitely coming back next time to try their other offerings.
8/11/23 visit: super awesome. First time here, very friendly staff. Feels like home!
We had so many dishes and they were all strong representations of Filipino flavors. Nothing crazy or fancy or unexpected.
The service was a bit slow at times, but that was because they were very busy! The staff is so great and you can tell they prepare the food and treat their customers with a lot of love.
The prices felt slightly high, but at might just be a sign of the times. Also my party was very hungry and we wanted to try one of everything!!
- Ube sliders: yes get
- Sisig: classic
- Peach cider: eh. they were out of the flavor i originally wanted (mango?)
- Lumpia: not pictured, ran out
- Eggplant: eh
- Pork BBQ: for sure yes
- Flan: thicc boy! I like my flan w body and this was more than that 😱. Surprising but still delicious. And some floral note more than I’m used to. Get it
- Halo halo: a chaotic classic! Minor gripe: some of the ice shavings became one large chunk and made it harder to enjoy. Still a strong dish tho and core memory
If you want to try Filipino food, this is a great place to go. If you are Filipino, you have to support this place!!
Also, not sure precisely the reason, but there was some LGBT pride iconage both inside and outside the restaurant so that was a nice bonus!
I like that they serve traditional pinoy dishes thats pretty straightforward and not trying to be too fancy or “fusion-y”. I enjoyed their inasal wings and the beef tapa. The pork siomai was not as I hoped as the wrapper was too thick but the filling was good! I liked the ube soft serve and leche flan. Service was really friendly and welcoming and I definitely want to come back to try the lechon, kare kare and sisig.
I ordered pork lechon and my hubby got the pork sisig. My pictures might not be so tempting but trust me they were absolutely delicious, “ a taste of home”!!
It was our first time here in ‘Kalye’ , the owner and the staff were so kind, nice and accommodating(feels like home) .
Must also try:
•Ube pao- hindi tinipid na ube (promise!)
•Ube soft - their house made ice cream(saraaaaap!)
•Mango salad - perfect partner sa pork lechon 👍
Great desserts! I loved their ube pandesal sandwich, ube pao, and halo halo with ube. Their pork bbq and ube longanisa slider were amazing too! Service was phenomenal! Syd,our server, is awesome! 🥳 will definitely recommend! The art indoors were very well curated as well!
As a former Filipina, I felt so much at home here at Kalye. I would recommend is the Pork Lechon, Kare-Kare, the Pork BBQ, Mango Salad and Garlic Rice. These are my personal favorites. For dessert I had the Ube soft serve and to drink, Calamansi juice AND Red Horse Beer.
My first time ever going to Kalye and it was a great experience! Tita Adora was super friendly and welcoming as soon as you come in the door. I ordered the shrimp siomai, lechon, and the Ube pao. The siomai was nicely steamed. The fact that …
